On April 13, 2021 the Legislative Assembly agreed that a Special Committee be appointed to undertake a review of the Personal Information Protection Act [SBC 2003, c. 63] in accordance with section 59 of that Act. The Act governs how private sector organizations collect, use and disclose personal information and gives individuals the right to access their own personal information.

The deadline to make a written, audio or video submission is 5:00 pm, July 30, 2021.

All input should focus on the provisions in Bill C-11 and the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as on the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia's recommendations to the Committee. More information is available on the right-hand side of thescreen.

All presentations and submissions from the 2020 consultation will be considered by the Committee during its upcoming deliberations. Those who made a presentation or written submission during the 2020 consultation are invited to provide an updated submission.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Special Committee will hold a series of public hearings by tele/videoconference.

You are invited to make a 10-minute presentation to the Special Committee, with 10 minutes for questions from Members, for a total of 20 minutes. Participation details will be sent to presenters closer to the public hearing date.

If the public hearings are full, please call 1-877-428-8337 (toll-free in BC) or email pipacommittee@leg.bc.ca to be placed on a waitlist.

Please provide advance notice if you require assistance or other accommodations. We are committed to ensuring accessibility and will make every effort to support your participation.

The public hearings will be recorded and transcribed by Hansard Services and transcripts will be posted on the Legislative Assembly’s website. Please review our Privacy Policy and do not include any confidential information in your presentation.
